what to see and do in madrid

Why August could be the best month to discover an alternative Madrid

If you try to find some information about Madrid in August, you will probably feel pretty disappointed: almost all book guides, blogs and web pages say that the city “closes down” in summer, that Madrid can be extremely hot, or that the capital is literally empty. However, my dear friend,…you don´t know what are you missing out! Just read what your Nakamad friends have to say, because a completely different and alternative Madrid is what you could find. Just keep on reading…

The emptier the city is…the less queues will be for visiting whatever you like!

The first advantage. You could attend to all exhibitions: Olga Picasso, Pink Floyd or even Prado Museum (which is currently celebrating its bicentenary). No stress, no rush.

Of course there are live concerts in August, have a nice time with an alternative Madrid!

Keane, Muse, Ben Harper will give a concert. Just saying… Add them to your alternative things to do in Madrid list and hurry up (tickets can be sold out double-quick).

Yeap, it´s pretty hot (it´s summer…) 😉

Las Vegas is also hot and that is part of its charm, don´t you think? Anyway you are not Frodo neither you won´t throw the Ring to Manzanares river. You could get on a boat at Retiro park´s lake, have a drink in a non touristy Madrid rooftop or even go shopping (believe me, we have air conditioner).

Alternative Madrid: drinking in a non touristy Madrid rooftop

And because Madrid always, always,…is a fiesta

Have you ever heard our motto “from Madrid to the sky?”. Maybe a visit to the Planetarium and the surroundings park could explain why.

And of course, the best museums in Madrid

Let me think…what non touristy cool things to do in Madrid could we offer to you? Oh yeah, we already know. Madrid celebrates in August the “Fiestas de La Paloma” in La Latina neighborhood, a sort of town fair where you will experience the meaning of “castizo”: that genuine and “old but gold” Madrid. And if dancing is what you want, attend to “Dancing in the streets”: an amazing event where hundreds of people dance in front of the Royal Palace.

As you can see, an alternative tourism is possible in Madrid if you are fed up with typical beach-sun-sangria holidays. So go, go, go: book your flight and your accomodation. We are taking charge of preparing a nakaplan full of non touristy things to do in Madrid. See ya!
